Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best used for smooth surfaces like pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator will have to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly made for surfaces which are uneven. These units also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket that is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machinery offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
