The forklift is a material handling machine utilized to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each component of a forklift has a specific function. Various components can be utilized to move the load either vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The parts utilized to lower and lift the load is called the forklift mast. There are various kinds of masts utilized for lifting loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is situated within the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.

Cab
Located within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located inside the cab.

Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest parts of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are situated at the rear in order to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
